USD grad appears on ‘Modern Family’

Are you a “Modern Family” fan?

Look for Elliott Graber, a Freeman, S.D., native and 2009 University of South Dakota graduate, in this Wednesday’s episode.

Graber plays a younger version of Phil Dunphy (Ty Burrell), one of the show’s main characters.

“They’re all looking back on the past to when they were younger,” Graber says. “They never thought that life would have turned out the way it did, essentially.”

It’s just a one-episode appearance on the hit TV show now, Graber says. “But you never know,” he says. “If the American public likes it and it gets good reviews, they could totally bring these characters back for more flashbacks in the future.”

After graduating from USD, Graber worked in musical theater, touring around the country, and did some film and commercial work in Minneapolis. He’s been living in Los Angeles for about six weeks now.

Graber also has a small role in “Iron Man 3,” which will be released in May. He doesn’t have any speaking lines, but plays a White House techie in a scene with Don Cheadle.

“Modern Family” airs at 8 p.m. on KSFY on Wednesday.
